Umbrella Frame

The structure of the umbrella frame

An umbrella frame is made up of a shaft, ribs, and a runner. There are several kinds of materials applied to make shafts, including metal, aluminum, fiberglass, carbon fiber, and wood. Most of these materials are also used to make the ribs. Runners are mostly made of plastic. Because the folding umbrella can be folded, its shaft is made from several tubes, which can only use metal and aluminum.

The numbers of ribs in an umbrella are different, depending on the size and usage of the umbrella. The folding umbrellas usually have 6 ribs or 8 ribs, and recently, there are 5 ribs, 7 ribs or 9 ribs. As for the walking umbrellas, they usually have 8 ribs, 12 ribs, 16 ribs and even 24 ribs.

The folding umbrella can be folded and, therefore, can be easily carried around. The folding umbrellas can be further divided into two-section, three-section, and four-section umbrellas. The more sections the umbrella has, the smaller the umbrella can be folded, but it can also be fatter. The walking umbrella cannot be folded, but it is stronger than a folding umbrella. Both folding and walking umbrellas can be manual or automatic. There are three kinds of folding umbrellas: manual open and close, automatic open and manual close, and automatic open and automatic close. There are only two kinds of walking umbrellas: manual open and automatic open. Automatic umbrellas are generally heavier than manual umbrellas because there are extra parts that help the automatic mechanism.

When we use a manual umbrella, the choice of the runner is very important because we have to close the umbrella by moving the runner. In the early days, people have to press the top spring to make the regular runner slide down. Due to the danger of getting cut by a regular runner, a button runner has been invented. When you use an umbrella with a button runner, you have to press the button to close the umbrella. A little while later, after the button runner, the push-pull runner was invented. Unlike the other two runners, people only need to pull the push-pull runner to close the umbrella. The push-pull runner is user-friendly because people just need to pull to close the umbrella. Currently, regular and button runners are much more common.

Shafts and ribs can get anodized into different colors depending on their materials. Metal ribs can be nickel and black electroplated, whereas metal shafts are either chrome-plated or black-electroplated. There are many more color choices for aluminum and fiberglass, such as black and white and even gold, red, or any color you can imagine. The special color of aluminum and fiberglass requires a high minimum order quantity. For example, gold anodized aluminum needs an MOQ of 6,000 pcs. Whereas for red or blue fiberglass, an MOQ of 3,600 pcs is required. Colorful frames are preferable when designing umbrellas to catch clients.
