Packing umbrellas for export
Packing umbrellas for export requires careful consideration of materials, methods, and regulations to ensure they arrive at their destination in optimal condition.
In the past, clients typically requested umbrella suppliers to individually pack each umbrella into a plastic bag before placing 24 to 36 umbrellas into an outer box for production. This requirement applied to custom, logo, and advertising umbrellas.
However, in recent times, there has been a growing concern for environmental sustainability, leading many customers to reduce their use of plastic. As a result, there has been a shift in umbrella packing practices. Some customers now opt to pack several umbrellas into one large plastic bag, while others choose to forgo plastic bags altogether and simply place the umbrellas directly into boxes.
Furthermore, the implementation of the Government’s Plastic Packaging Tax in the UK, which took effect in April 2022, has further incentivized the reduction of plastic usage. The tax imposes a cost of £200 per metric ton on plastic packaging deemed 'tax liable,' where at least 30% recycled content cannot be demonstrated. Consequently, it is estimated that the amount of recycled plastic used in packaging will increase by approximately 40%. This reduction in carbon emissions is expected to result in nearly 200,000 tons of carbon savings between 2022 and 2023.
